New Facility is Up and Going!

October 10, 2009

The new building at Big Springs Ranch has sprung up fast. At the end of the summer, there was just an empty caliche pad and some rockwork where the building would stand. Shortly after school began, so did the construction. The crews arrived and poured the cement where the animal pens would go and soon after that, the project was off to a running start.

The Big Springs Ranch had received a generous donation at the end of last year to fund a new agricultural barn to house the animal projects for the Big Springs Ranch 4H club. The building will  have a large meeting room, tack room for feed and supplies, and a full kitchen complete with all the appliances. An office will be on one side of the kitchen and will be used hold all of the 4H club records for the Big Springs Club. Out back of the building on a covered slab, will be 20 animal pens and 4 rabbit hutches. A wash rack is being built and a grooming area will be included as well.

"The building is going up really fast", said Mr. Davenport, 4H adult leader for the Big Springs Club. "We are really fortunate to have such a great facility for the kids from Big Springs Ranch", He added. Even though construction is continuing at a great pace, this years animal projects are being housed away from the site in the portable pens used last year. The new pens and buildings will be complete and ready for use during the 2010-2011 4H year.
